Cake FAQs

Acceptable forms of payment?
We take all major credit cards including Amex, as well as cash. Sorry, no personal checks.
Do you ship?
It depends! Certain items, like kringle, morning pastries, and even kransekage ship well. Unfortunately we cannot ship refrigerated desserts or cakes. Give us a call to get a shipping quote.
What about special dietary needs?
While we have certain items that do not contain gluten, nuts, or animal products in the recipe, we do not have dedicated space to produce these items separately. All of our baked goods are made on shared equipment and surfaces, so unfortunately we can’t guarantee there are no trace elements of any allergens. If you have a deadly allergy to nuts especially, please take care when ordering or serving our items – we use a lot of almonds here!
Do you make donations?
We get this question a lot, so we decided to focus our donation resources to benefit the homeless and hungry in our immediate community. Currently our end-of-day items are committed to two local organizations who have scheduled pickups everyday.
So while our pastry donations are spoken for, sometimes we have gift cards available for raffles. Send us an email to hello@danishpastryhouse.com to inquire.
Payment policy for custom designs?

To reserve your date in advance, full payment of your order is required.

The best way to serve my cake?

Glad you asked! We recommend keeping your cake refrigerated until 30-45 minutes before serving. This allows any buttercream in the finish to soften up and become silky smooth.
If the cake is still pretty chilly on the inside, try dipping your knife in hot water for 10 seconds and wiping it off before each slice.

Can I place a pre-order?

Yes – we love pre-orders! For morning pastries like croissants and muffins, you can call by 2:00 PM the day before. For signature cakes, we ask for 48 hours notice. If you’re looking for a custom cake, we typically need 1 week notice, but it’s subject to availability. Please give us a call at 617-926-2747 to check our schedule.

Do you deliver?
Yes! We charge a flat delivery rate of $25 within 5 miles of our Watertown facility, and bill $2.75 per mile after that. Let us know where it’s going and we can generate a quote for you.
How should I store baked goods?
Morning items such as croissants and muffins, as well as cookies and bars, can be covered in an air-tight container and stored at room temperature. Items containing cheese or meat should be wrapped and refrigerated, and can be popped in the toaster oven to restore to warm, flaky goodness.
Desserts with cream, such as eclairs, cupcakes, and cakes, should be refrigerated. Cakes can be taken out 30-45 minutes before serving so that the buttercream is smooth and soft.
When should I order my cake?
For our signature cakes, we ask for 48 hours notice. If you’re looking for a customized flavor, please allow 36 hours. We typically have 6 inch signature cakes available in store for same day pick up, so call us to see what flavors we have left.
If you’re in need of a custom designed cake, we typically need 5 days notice – but bear in mind this is subject to availability in our schedule. Often people call weeks (or even months!) ahead of time to book cakes, so it may be that your desired date is already full. Please give us a call at 617-926-2747 to check availability.
Do you do wedding cake tastings?

We do.  While we are unable to accommodate sit-down tastings, we do offer cake samples for you to try at home. For $5.00 a piece, our pastry chef will prepare mini cakes using our signature flavors of your choice.

What is marzipan anyway?

Marzipan is a confection consisting primarily of almond meal, corn syrup and confectioner’s sugar. We make ours in-house.
While marzipan is not as ultra-smooth or ultra-white as fondant, we find our customers prefer its sweet, nutty flavor.
Since marzipan is made from almonds, we definitely do not recommend serving it to someone with a nut allergy, so please make sure your party guests are aware!

How can I transport my cake safely?
If you don’t have someone riding with you to hold the cake box, we recommend place it on the floor in front of the passenger seat. This is a level surface and ensures the cake has no chance to slide or tip during the trip. Of course, be easy on the brakes and take turns gently! If you have a long drive, make sure the interior of the car is relatively cool. You can turn on the AC and direct it through the floor vents if it’s particularly hot.

Our happy customers.

I just wanted to say thank you for some awesome Danish cake. I’m a Dane but have been living in Boston for more than 4 years now and only just learned about your amazing bakery. I have been wanting a hindbærsnitte aka. Poptart for some time now and it was delicious.

Brigid Pigott

“I just wanted to send a quick email to thank you for the wonderful cake for our wedding! Everyone absolutely loved it! My 9 year old cousin said that “wedding cake is better than any other cake.” The decoration, the flowers and the topper were perfect and I can’t thank you and the Danish Pastry House enough for giving us such a great cake! I will gladly recommend the Danish Pastry House to anyone who is looking for a wedding cake or any kind of cake for that matter.”

Armando

“I wanted to follow-up with you to tell you that were extremely happy with the cake. The cake itself was delicious — everyone loved it. The artwork was perfect. The dog looked exactly like my daughter’s stuff animal, and she got a real kick out of being able to eat him.

Thank you very much for squeezing us in at the last minute and doing a great job! We will be returning to you in the future.”
